Question:

What would make a car without airbags safer to drive, for both the driver side and passenger side?

I know racing seats with harnesses would make a car safer, But i'd like to know what else.

  3. a rollcage or maybe beanbags but they won't make it safer to drive.  They'd make it safer in case of an accident though...

  4. That's it.  Helmets, maybe.  A good roll cage to prevent cabin deformation.  Or did you really want to be driving an underpowered race car?

    Really, there is nothing you can add aftermarket that's going to make the car more survivable in a crash.  The airbag is a supplemental device to work in conjunction with the seatbelts.  The seatbelts do a great job; great seatbelts do an even better job.  The airbag is just to prevent you slamming your head and chest into the controls when your seat collapses.  

    I'm driving an older vehicle that doesn't have airbags or beams in the doors, and I don't feel particularly at risk.
