I just riding home on mon and noticed some smoke coming out from under my seat. I got home took the seat off and found that a plug had melted i took the fairings of and followed the cable and it looks to be running to the voltage regulator resistor, to the clip under the seat and to the engine from there!

  1. Check the stator, it should have no continuity to the frame.

Always hard wire and solder the stator and or voltage regulator at the plugs. (cut out the plugs and solder and seal the wires).

This is a good preventive maintenance tip.

Take the regulator in to be checked at the dealer. It can be tricky diagnosing a faulty regulator.

If I had to guess I would look for a short to the frame from a damaged wire insulation.
