I just bought a 99 mazda 626LX 4 cylinder and it test drove fine, but ever since i brought it back every time i turn the car on it makes a really loud screeching noise. It gets worse by the day, and today it did it while i was driving for the first time. Any one know what is wrong?

  1. Sounds like it could be a belt or tensioner pulley.  If you just bought it, I'd say it's worth every penny to get it into the shop ASAP to get it checked.

Go to www.cars.com if you want answers from people who really know cars, or to find a good shop in your city.  Best of luck!

  2. you need to replace the serpentine belt and check the belt tensioner for wear.

  3. Your belts need replaced and probably tightened. If it is slipping it's glazed and tighting it won't help.

  4. Worn serpentine belt.  Thes belts use automatic tensioners which can not be adjusted.  Either they work or they don't.

  5. Could be a loose belt. Check the tenion on the belts.

It could also be a the alternator or AC. When the bearings on the pullys go bad they squeal.

  6. loose belt go get a tension wrench if you know how to tighten it our just go to your local avanced auto parts store and tell them the problem theyll be happy to help you do this in the next day or so cause if the belt snaps your car will have to sit until you can get a new one

  7. my car does it all the time!  i think it could be the ignition coil or ignition switch.  also check your timing belt for cracks cause that could be it too!  take your car in for a tune up and tell the machanic what its doing!

  8. First I'll start by asking...Does your a/c work inside the car well? sometimes the "pulleys" like on the a/c compressor can   " lock-down" Start it with hood up see if all of the pulleys are turning(a/c com presser power string pump,ect..) if they all are turning, then the problem is easy..replace the belt that squeaks. if not you have a "part malfunction" which will be related to the pulley that locked up.good maintenance..keep belts good ,,motor oiled and as with the first persons answer find a good mechanic...THAT YOU TRUST!

  9. lose belt, probaly a fan or altinator belt. check them they should only give about an inch when you press them if the move more than that they need to be tightend.
