  1. Your question is to vague to answer precisely.  I'll try: go Unix :-)

    The maxim with any system is the more complex it becomes, the more trouble it is prone too.  A multi-engine aircraft is more dangerous than a single engine because there are more engine problems that can occur.  In other words, make your system run only what you need it to run.  Many systems ship with WAY to many things loading on start up.

    If you are running Windows you can turn off start up items by doing the following:

    1. Start - Run  type  msconfig   and then hit enter

    2. This brings up a window.  Select the Start Up tab

    3. You may elect to uncheck as many items as you wish (this typically can cause problems because they are made by different software company's that can at times conflict).  Please note, that some of these you might want to keep on.
