Question:

What would make the cold water come out warm?

When I turn the cold water on at my house, it's always warm. The longer it's on it seems the warmer it gets. This might sound weird but when I clean the toilets, the water feels warm in there too....(ick, I know).

  1. could be a few reasons but most likely you have a cross connection . for example a faulty solenoid valve on your washing machine  ,that is the part where the hoses hook up on the back of the washing machine . if its not closing properly you can get a mix   crossing over . also  if you have a claw foot tub  and there is a handle to shut of the water to the shower heard  but you never really turn the hot or cold water off  it could cross over if there isn't a check valve put in  . also some homes have a mixing valvle on the toilets (especially with well water ) to keep them from sweating on humid summer days . look for something like that and shut the water off to them one at a time and see if you find the culprit

  2. sounds like you got a lot of advise from pro's.but it is summer, and water lines do get warm.

  3. How far are you from the main water line and how long have you lived there? The water may be traveling a great distance, if the grounds warm and few people are on the line, the water will be warm because of less circulation (usage). This also could happen if you live near the top of a multiple story dwelling, the walls are hot where the pipes run. However, if you have lived there awhile and it never happened before, disregard this.

  4. some of your taps and toilet could be fed from your cold water tank in the loft, it also takes the overflow from your hot water cylinder, if thermostat is playing up cylinder hot water expands into tank this should be checked 1st as it could be a potential hazard just lift the lid and look

  5. This sounds like a cross connection problem with your hot water.

how long has this been happening?  how long have you lived there?  is this in ALL sinks and toilets in the house?

    more info is needed.

  6. If you turn on your hot water, and the water becomes very hot.

that is OK. If the water stays cold, U water heater needs a fix.

If you turn on your cold water, and the water is warm at first,

and then, after a short time (30 seconds) it starts to get cold.

It is from the "standing" water that is in your pipes, and has

reached "room" temperature, from inside your house, or in

your "crawl space, under your house. That is OK too. <}:-})
