What would make you go to a coffee shop?

Question

So, in a few years I am planning to move back home and start a coffee shop/hangout.

How do I get people to go there? We are planning on having live, local bands and possibly selling their merchandise. What else? What would make you personally go to a coffee shop?

(At first, I was going to open a bar/club, but my county is totally dry, and I didn't think people would go to a non-alcoholic bar, lol).

Big comfy sofas,decent music that isn't too loud, a good area to chill out that has plenty of nooks & crannies to hide out in if you want a bit of privacy, newspapers available maybe?(I always like to sit and read a paper when I go out somewhere like that).A good selection of not just coffee but teas/sodas etc, an adequate food menu to grab a snack. Light & airy with good lighting (I hate these 'cosy' places with low lighting). Space between tables-nothing worse than a place that crams too many tables/seating areas in-I don't want to hear the conversation of the person next to me because they are virtually sat with us they are that close.

Just make it really relaxing and chill.

Comfy chairs or sofas, local bands would be cool, but might only attract one specific audience, if that's what you're looking to do..

And lots of variety! Think Starbucks.

make it real cozy and inviting.. have daily drink specials make up some unusual ones.. make sure to have intranet access at some tables or booths.. Good luck!

Being a "little older" than a teenager.....I would love to see a hangout for older people.  We like to hangout too.  If possible, a two-sided coffee shop would be great or at least different music geared to different ages on different nights.

well people usually go in a coffee shop to unwind..eat breakfast, have their meetings and hangout with friends..

so its kinda weird to have a bands and stuffs inside the coffee shop..because people will definitely ask for a beers and stuffs..

maybe just put speakers at the top side of the shop and play relaxing songs..so that people will really enjoy the environment..

make your shop flexible with all types of groups..

The only thing that would get me into a coffee shop is if they had salt-top bagels and fresh cream cheese.
