  1. Running on a track with SPIKES, putting more effort into it, training more and harder, pushing yourself, having lots of excellent runners in the race, feeling well, HYDRATED, eaten lots of carbo the night before

    ^^ Lots of things can change your postition, even your mood.

    Also, determination is key to running faster oh and dedication!


  2. Are we talking sprinting or long distance?

    If it's sprinting then heavy squats are a good exercise to build leg power as is plyometrics (bounding, hopping etc.), however when training for speed there's no substitute for short sprints (30-40m) at 100% effort and full recovery.

    For long distance it's all about running I'm afraid, fartlek is one of the best ways to increase your race pace.

  5. well for exercis wise (rhyme!=]) you would have to do the opposite of cardivascular excersies and it would have to be lower body. i recommend squats,on the spot jogs, some star jumps or anything to do with your legs, run on tip toes and at a low level to start with, don't tense anything but your legs while running (that wastes ALOT of energy) especially your arms and jaw, pump your legs AND arms powerfully but don't tense your arms.

    Apart from that wear proper running gear if your up for it :)

  8. For sprinting, lunges, leg extentions and curls, calf raises, interval running, hill or bleacher repeats.  And always stretch after exercise.  Getting massage regularly will help you recover faster and get back to training.

    I also own one of thse GPS watches (by Garmin - "Forerunner") which shows your pace and you can race against a virtual runner - good for when you are out by yourself.

    Bodybuilding excercises for yer legs - increased strength = extra power

    Stretching excercises - flexibility enables you to push harder without fear of injury

  12. INTERVALS!!!  If you have a track near where you live, you should go up and run intervals.  I'm on the cross country and track team at my high school and that's what coach says is best for us to improve our times with!  You could run:

    10x400 (one lap) at a 90 second pace with a minute break inbetween

    6x600 at a 2:00~pace with a 90 second break

    5x800 at a 3 minute pace with a 2 minte break inbetween

    4-5x1000 (2 and a half laps) at a 3:15 pace with a 3 minute break inbetween

    4x1200 at a 4:30 minute pace with a 3:30 break inbetween

    or

    3x1 mile repeats - you shoot to run a mile in around 6:30 and then you take a break for the same time that it took you to tun the mile.

    After stretching and running a few warm-up laps, these excersices take aroun 30 - 45 minutes to complete.  I hope this helped!  =)

  15. Use leg weights and go for short jogs or walks, and eventually get heavier weights and when you take them off you should feel alot lighter and be able to run with alot of ease

    get a pitbull to chase you

    wear a baseball cap, tie a string to the front and attach a $100 bill

  18. Build up general muscle strength. Look at 100m sprinters. Think strong arms and strong legs. Lose body fat.
