  1. Each state in the U.S has its own specific laws regarding the removal of a child from its home. In addition, individual counties (or parishes) and then case workers within these have their own individual leans and variations on the themes. How much or how little is tolerated depends. What a caseworker in New York City will tolerate may be very different than what a caseworker in the little town of Olean, N.Y. will tolerate. Also, the judges have a LOT to do with it.

  2. MERCY YES!!

  3. I used to believe that as long as the child's needs are being met, then they shouldn't be taken away.  But, then I read one post on here that made me think, regarding drugs.  The post stated something to the effect of 'as long as it's not harming the kids', or something similar to that.

But, isn't it harming the children and putting them in a position of one day it potentially effecting them?  If they are doing something, even if it's not in front of them, that could result in the parent serving time and not being available for the child, then I believe that IS reason enough.  Doing drugs, whether it's in front of them, or not, can lead to a few scenarios that could be devestating to the child.  One, they could become addicted and start spending all their time and money on the drug, rather than the child.  Two, they could be taken away from, if they get arrested.  And last, they are doing something that increases the risk of a crime against the family, such as theft, or murder, if a deal goes bad.

It may seem harsh for someone to lose their child because of what could potentially happen to the child, but, if the parent isn't willing to put the child's welfare (even potential welfare) before the drug, somebody needs to step in.

  4. Britney Spears is a perfect example. Shes unfit, obviously on drugs. And shes loosing custody of her children.

  5. I dont agree with drugs at all, but if the parents were still looking after the kids well and not doing drugs in front of the kids then there is much more serious  issues that would have kids taken off their parents, like beating and starving etc.

  6. *Abuse of any kind, whether it be alcohol or drug, physical or mental, etc.

    *Neglect.

*Abuse by other family members (such as siblings, etc.) can be the cause of removal from a home.

*Criminal activity that requires parents to be incarcerated with no one at home to care for the child.

There are various reasons that could cause a child to be removed from a home.

  7. Yes doing drugs and being a parent don't mix

    abuse, and neglect too!!!

  8. Yes using drugs can be grounds to have your children taken from you, if you are neglecting or abusing them also.

I disagree with whoever said that you don't really want to go through all of that and it's too much trouble.  Living with drug addicted parents can't be much of a picnic!

If I loved my parents, and they were on drugs, I would want them around for awhile.  Obviously life expectancy for a drug addict is not as long as a person who isn't on drugs.  Therefore I would want help for my parent.  It might not be easy, but if you love your parent you should do this to help them get off of the drugs!

  9. There are many instances where parents SHOULD be declared unfit, but it often doesn't happen unless the child is either physically abused or medically neglected.  Hundreds of judges return children to unstable mothers rather than even consider the father or the grandparents.

  10. if you are looking for a reason to be taken away, then crack would be a good one.

the police might want some evidence though, so it might be easier if you just ask to go stay with grandma.

  11. Parents who abuse drugs, and therefor are aggressive or unsafe to be around maybe. If they are addicted then they are unfit.

It all depends on how often they use it and how they react to it. Its not a good example for children though.

  12. Technically, yes a social service case worker would probably remove the child and a trial go from there. But the question is: Is it really worth the trouble? If you feel uncomfortable unsafe or exceedingly unhappy then perhaps steps should be taken, but if it's just on principal, consider it before contacting child services.

  13. Abuse and/or neglect are primary reasons for a parent to be considered unfit and to result in their child(ren) being taken away. These can include, but by no means be limited to, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, inability or unwillingness  to take medication that is prescribed by a doctor to keep you from becoming an unfit parent (for mental illness, for instance), inappropriate sexual activity with the child or exposure to it, physically harming the child, emotionally harming the child, being unable or unwilling to care for the child.

  14. First of all, as a mandated reporter, I know there has to be some kind of proof that the parents are unfit.  If it's weed of crack there has to be proof that the child is being neglected or abused.  There are many parents that are on drugs but their children are taken care of so no not all the time drugs will get you taken away. It's all depends on the livelihood of the child, are there needs being met, and are they safe.

I hope this is something that you can handle.  If you need help you should call your local emergency assistance (911) and they will direct you to the proper child protective agency.

I hope all is well, Good Luck and may God Bless You!
