What would men GAIN from implementation of an equalist social, economic and political agenda?

yes... this is a recycled question... But we have a new crop of regulars here on GWS... so hear we go again.

Normally, I dislike questions which reinforce s*x-based social identities, but I would like to hear what people in this forum think about this.

Please do not use this question as an opportunity to deride whatever you think feminism or anti-feminism consist of. I am really only interested in serious, thoughtful answers.

Incidentally, I am using "MEN" here to denote the s*x, not any particular gender within or involving that sexual identity - the more inclusive the better.

  1. Men have already gained from the feminist movement - they have permission to be more involved as fathers and it's now considered normal for the woman to shoulder part of the economic load.

Relationships are more open as each side drops traditional stereotypes of the other.  That may lead to better s*x, it certainly leads to better companions.

And more men are discovering that the feminine side within them is a source of strength, not weakness.

In the working world, women bring a different gestalt to management - they think differently, which increases the chance that an idea will be valid once it passes the test of two completely different ways of thinking.  Likely, the same effect will be seen in government once sufficient women participate to be really heard.

Our daughters have grown from being trained as future baby factories and domestic slaves to being trained  to be effective persons.

I can only expect that continued movement to a more civilized way of living will produce more benefits, since we have all benefitted so far.

  2. The same things everyone else would gain: equitable laws, fair treatment (hopefully), and no drama.

  3. they will gain back what they have lost, the right to a fair trial.  The right to be judged innocent BEFORE being proved guilty.  Etc, etc.  As John Lennon said, "Imagine..."

  4. Freedom

  5. 1. Men would have equal say in court concerning child support and other divorce matters, such as maintenance.

    2. Currently custody is presumed to be with the mother at the birth of the child, and it is difficult for fathers to gain custody from the mother unless she is found to be unfit. This would change. Furthermore, neither parent could be excluded from interacting fully in their child's life, unless one of those parents were unfit. This would include fathers who walk away from the women they get pregnant, as well as mothers who want to keep fathers from their children for whatever reason. Both parents would be held equally responsible.

    3. The wage gap is a complex issue, with many factors. But if it were somehow eliminated (if that's even possible), men and women could reasonably be expected to share equal financial responsibility. This would range from things like who pays for dates to who pays for the mortgage.

    4. Both men's and women's various health issues would get fair attention. There would no longer be justification for the stereotype that women don't have to work as hard as men, or that they can get by on their looks, and men would no longer be judged for crying. In general, the elimination of sexism and sexist stereotypes would benefit both men and women.

    5. There are other issues I'm sure, but the only other one that immediately springs to mind is housework. Both men and women would be expected to do an equal share, which would make countless women very happy.

  6. Not much. After 150 years of feminism, just check out where we are today. Perhaps under TRUE equality, men would have to do less snow shoveling, less grass cutting, less dangerous climbing on the roof to clean the eaves, less electrical work/construction around the home, less fixing of the car, etc. They may also get fair amount of tax dollar spent on medical research for male diseases. They might also not get discriminated against in the workplace, through affirmative action, just because they're men. The list goes on...

  7. Nothing.  The animal rights lobbyists and other special interest groups would make a grab for tax dollars.  This, while the so-called "equalists" were trying to figure out who exactly their constituents were.  You snooze, you lose.

  8. We already to a point in society were equality has been achieved like equal pay http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba/ba392/, so this question is makes me feel like I jumped into a time machine and went back into the 1960/1970's.

There is however one area that could use equality and that would be matters that involve family law. Including domestic matters like housework into a question that focuses on social issues makes no sense to me. Equal housework would only benefit women.

  9. Bottom line is the best person for the job.

Do this and society / companies will prosper.  Don't do this and inefficiencies render the said group uncompetative / unproductive.

(well, eliminate most of our corporate taxation, mindless regulations also, but thats another long story.)

Unfortunately, society does not adhere to these logical principals due to political cons / ignorant sheep followers.

Feminism / advanced socialism paves the road to communism.  It is marxist in origin, and the end of things as we know them one day.
