What would my horse be worth?

I bought my horse for $8,000

My coach who I bought him from said that she gave me him for a very good deal. Is this true?

Here's some facts about him:

He's a 4 year old bay, thoroughbred gelding out of Crown Attourney(seach him)

He's a great mover through every pace

Frames, extends, collects, leg yeids, can turn on the forhand

The highest ive jumped him is 3'3 but my coach is confident he can jump much, much higher

A very good listen, sweet, gentle temperment

A quirky personality

No vices, loads and leads easy

Nice around other horses

And im no expert on conformation but I'm sure his is very good or next to

I dont know how to make a link and show you pictures of him but i can assure you hes very handsome.

Was it a good deal? How much do you think he's worth?

  1. I think right now you would be lucky to get back what you paid for him.  His sire isn't anything special and he doesn't have solid show record.  Unfortunately, no matter how fancy they are, thoroughbreds are not worth too much in the sport horse world if they don't have a verified performance record.

  2. I live in New York's Capital District. There's quite a bit of hunt seat emphasis here in the horse industry. You could probably get $10k or more for him up here with rated show miles on him.

  3. i'll give you 3 chickens, a goat and 6 bags of rice for the delicious horse

  4. He is not "out of"  Crown Attorney.  He is "BY" Crown Attorney.

They are "out of" the mare.

Edit:  Sorry.  You sound like you are/were trying to learn.  Next time maybe no one will bother.

  5. does he have any show history or competition history. if no then not a good deal if yes then what are his winnings

well i live in aus and you probably wouldn't get any more the 3500-4000 here

  6. I think it was a good deal! I think he could be worth even more that that!

But truthfully, if you love the horse and think you'll be able to succeed in whatever u want to do with him, then I say you made a great deal!

  7. I think he was a good deal. If you think of it, he could have been more. So pretty good deal. :]

  8. 4 years old?? and jumping 3'3??

In my opinion, that alone makes him worth a lot less. A lot of horses bones don't finish coming together or growing untill they are at least 5 years old. If it was me i wouldn't even start jumping a horse untill it was at least 4 1/2 years old. It does depend on the horse, but when they are pushed too hard and too young of an age they tend to have a way higher risk of getting hurt... arthiritis, lameness etc. That is also some of the reason why racehorses break down so easily because they are too young and worked too hard. Just my opinion

  9. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me

  10. Horses are worth depending on what you want out of them.

If you want a great jumper than you got a good deal (he sounds like a nice jumper by your words)...if you are wanting a backyard horse for little ridding then no it wasn't a good deal.  Like I said it depends on what you want to do with him.

Most important if your happy and he is happy then its a great deal!

  11. Sorry to say, but I could have found a horse of the same history, age, training, and like or better breeding for under $5000 if not find one at any OTTB rescue across the country. I think your trainer took advantage of you obviously knowing little about the value or conformation of the equine.

However, whether it be $800 or $8,000 if you like him and he gets the job done and you enjoy riding him, then money will hold no value.

  12. Honey if you have a 4 year old TB jumping 3'3, youve got a valuable horse. Just from what Ive heard I'd say hes worth around $15,000. How tall? If hes 16.0+ then hes probably worth 2-3k more. Auto changes? GREAT HORSE!~

  13. If he is 4 and jumping 3'3' then thats great he shows that much potential, however, i do agree that since he is only 4 you need to watch not to push him bc not everything is fused.

He sounds very nice, but I would not have paid 8 for him. However, if you put the time into him, and he turns out really great, then your money was well spent! :)
