  1. Take a look at this site  http://www.navy-officer.com/pay.html.  This breaks down the pay according to your respective community.  In addition, it calculates the tax breaks associated with the officer pay and the benefit cost of the officer health/dental plan so that you can directly compare the pay to the civilian sector.  One aspect the chart does not take into consideration is the tremendous retirement plan associated with the armed forces.  The chart also assumes that you are living in Norfolk, VA.  Overall, you have a starting salary of at least $50K and will be making almost $90K in just 4 years.

You will not be looked down upon because of your height/build.  If you are not a very competent officer, then you will be looked down upon.  If you are good at your job and work hard, you will earn the respect that you deserve.

  2. youll get paid a bundle be hated by the enlisted for working so little and being paid so much and eventually will start to believe the elitist treatment you get is deserved

  3. I believe it would be an E-5. I could be wrong. If you went to college and have any degrees I know the pay is higher. Also if your only 18-20 and thinking your going to join as an officer, that isn't very realistic as many people work for years to gain that ranking. Hope this helps!

  4. Base pay for an O-1 with 0-2 years experience is 2,555.70 per month currently before taxes (and will go up in CY09).  You'll also receive BAS, BAH (if you live off base) and potentially other pays depending on what your designator is (Surface Warfare, Naval Aviation, Submarines, etc); these pays are tax-free.

Life depends a lot on what community you are in, but we have all types in the Navy & in the officer corps.  As a surface warfare officer, you would be attached to a ship and be in charge of a division. You would be at sea a lot and learn mostly by OJT.  As a naval aviator, you would go to Pensacola, FL for pilot or naval flight officer training. As a submariner,  you would go to Charleston, SC for nuke school first, then sub school and then assigned to a submarine.  If you tell me what you are hoping to do in the Navy, I can be more specific
