  2. They don't pump separately.  They are in sync due to the control of the SA and AV nodes.  The AV node is located between the right atrium and right ventricle. It slows the signals and allows the ventricles to fill before it moves on.  When the left side pumps the right side pumps. The Sinoatrial node is the impulse generating (pacemaker) tissue located in the right atrium of the heart, and thus the generator of sinus rhythm.
