  1. Parents can be taught to make things for family literacy, such as home made books. I really like the small photos albums that I have parents use in two parts. The first to tell THEIR story...family history and identity...what things they liked when they were kids, etc. The other is for the child to create a story together with the parent and add cut out magazine photos, drawings etc. this story can change every week or so with the parent guiding the child and learning new vocabulary. It serves as language art simultaneously with family history and increasing vocabulary and conversation.

    Have some parents come and volunteer to read stories or be real "storytellers" with music and actions encouraging the children to participate.
