  1. zoologists would get more money than a zoo keeper, look at it like this.. would u rather shovel c**p or examine it? the pays better. . .

  2. zoologist. zookeepers make regular salaries. Indeed.com is the source for salaries

  3. Zoologist.  The two are not related.  You need at least a masters degree to be a zoologist.  You do not need a college degree to be a zoo keeper.

  4. According to payscale.com, zoologist get paid more.

  5. To start the two lead to very different jobs and a different educations.  You might want to look into what types of jobs come with zoology and the education behind both.

Anyway, it really depends on the type of job that you have, who you work for and your "rank".  For example I work at a zoo and a first level keeper makes in the 20s, however we have animal curators that make six figures.  The same also goes for most jobs based in zoology, however on avg starting will be higher with most zoology degrees.

Also, ignore the person who said you do not need a college degree to be a zoo keeper.  In most zoos that is no longer the case.  Many require a four year degree in a related degree (biology, zoology, natural resources, etc) and experince.  HOWEVER some will sub a four year degree for a two year if you have more experience or no degree for even more experience.  Try looking at the following on their job page listing, you will see what they require: http://aza.org/

Also with most zoology jobs you will need at least a four year degree but many if not most will require you to go back for research projects and a masters.  Many are also govt based jobs be it federal, state or local.

On a personal note: In either field these jobs are the type that you do because you love them and not because of the money you make.  Pick what you want because it is what you want to do and what you have a passion for... not because it will get you a big house and fast car.  If you are looking for money you will want to look at other professions.

  6. Definitely zoologist. A zookeeper's pay is quite poor - I used to be a zookeeper, and earned minimum wage. Many people want to work with animals, so they don't need to tempt workers with high pay. The hours are long and you may not be paid for any overtime worked - in the zoo I worked at, you were paid only between 8am and 5pm, even if you arrived at 6.30am and didn't leave til 7pm. You are also required to work weekends and public holidays without additional pay.
