What would people think if I proposed a "girls ask guys" dance?

I'm thinking it would be kinda neat to have a "girls ask guys" dance (I think they are referred to as Sadie Hawkins dances?)

Anyway, I would like to propose the idea to the student council of our HS but do you think people would get the opinion of, "Ha, he wants this just because he doesn't have the balls to ask a girl to a dance"? That is partially true (I am VERY shy-it took me about 4 weeks to get the courage to ask a friend to prom but that ended in rejection...)

I am a respected and well-known member of the student body for my scientific research achievements and I don't want that reputation ruined over something like this...

my school does these every year. they are really fun and i think your student council will love the idea. go for it :D
