  1. You don't mention what age group. But I will assume you are talking about early childhood.

    Playing with clay or playdough develops their fine motor skills, if you have several children playing together and involve them in  dramatic play such as making and "selling" "pizza, spagetti and meatballs, serving eachother....they are learning sharing and social-emotional skills. Forming certain shapes and ideas develops their cognitive or problem solving skills. If you have good open ended conversation throughout activity and ask questions about their ideas, as well as give words to actions and objects, they learn vocabulary and language and communication skills. Children are always learning while they play!
