What are the steps you have to take to move e.g. visas, property, financing? Do you just have to have a job offer to go there?

  1. You will need a Work VISA or Green Card. A green card can take years to obtain. A work VISA is an easier rout, however with a work VISA you need to be sponsored by an employer, which means you need a job 1st.

You 1st step would be to get a job. My suggestion is you get a job with a US based company in your native country or look for a job in your country with companies with US offices. Once you are employed, start looking for an internal transfer.

  2. If you want to work temporarily in the U.S. and are highly educated and skilled, you may have a small chance of finding an employer to give you a contract. See 1st site below.  If you want to immigratete permanently, and have parents, spouse, or child in the U.S., they may sponsor your immigration.  Otherwise, you most likely have to apply through the diversity lottery program.  There are  also a few other categories you can read about below.  You must apply 2 years ahead for the lottery, then about one of every 60 is chosen fro further consideration.  Whole immigration process can easily take 5 to 8 years.  See 2nd and 3rd sites below.  Some countries are off the eligible list for the diversity lottery due to being over the quota of immigrants from that country for this 5 yr. period.  The process is not easy.  Similarly , Americancans wishing to move to  Europe, it is very difficult.
