As a stem cell transplant patient (the medically correct term for a bone marrow transplant), I know that the preservative in the stem cells smell kind of like garlic.  I couldnt smell it that much, but apparently it oozed out of my pours for days. lol.  Not joking.  Since the stem cells are harvested months or even years before the transplant (I used cord blood, so who knows how long it had been stored) they have to perserve it some way.  I dont know what they use, but I do know what it smelled like =>

    i dont know a lot about stem cells, but i'll have a guess

    i'd imagine they are quite low in protein, as they have not yet been assigned a function, so they won't be very meaty

    again the lipid content would be quite low, so they won't be very oily

    it would have a relativly high concentration of nucleic acids, which i'd imagine dont taste of anything

    i'm gona guess slightly salty, but otherwise bland
