Edit: Actually, what Man said is correct, mamak @ Tamil Muslims are not considered bumiputra. Maybe the bumiputra mamak you've ever met is the one who's actually mixed with Malays, not pure mamak. Just like some bumiputra Chinese in Sabah.

Bumiputra is a priviliege status accorded  to the Malay populations in Malaysia. Therefore it is not proper to mention on this sensitive issues regarding the Malay rights.

There is no reason for the Government of Malaysia to withdraw the status quo. It is not so simple for the non-muslims to convert to Islam just for the sake of Bumiputra status.
