What would the best sharpness level be for my 32 inch vizio? it is a 0-7 scale and 1,2,3,4 are too low and 7 is too high i want to know which one (5, or 6) would be better for my xbox 360. the 6 sharpness level seems to make everything more detailed but idk

  1. Sharpness is really a setting meant for old tvs. the correct setting on a new tv such as a LCD if calibrated by a specialist will almost always be 0 on the sharpness setting.


  2. Televisions have brightness/contrast/sharpness adjustments for 2 reasons:

    - Variations in electronics means 2 identical TV's will look different even with identical settings.

    - Each input device (xbox, CATV box, DVD player) produces a different electrical signal.  The adjustments are to compensate for hotter signals from the CATV box and cooler signals from the DVD player.

    (Better televisions have separate settings for each input because of this.)

    Here is how to properly adjust the settings:

    Get a copy of "Avia", "Digital Video Essentials" or a DVD with the "THX Optimizer" feature. Run it on the xbox.

    Go through the tutorial which puts up test patterns and instructs you when to change brightness, contrast, sharpness.

    You have now psudo-calibrated your display for your xbox.
