This object will be striking upon a single point, and is essentially an enormous miner's pick.

  1. The kinetic energy of the object is:

    E =(1/2) m V^2 = (1/2) (240/32.2) (117.333^2) = 51306 ft- lbs

    If this energy is absorbed by another object on impact within t seconds

    the equivalent acceleration is;

    a =v/t = 117.333/t  ft/sec^2

    The Force generated by the impact is:

    F = ma = (240/32.2)(117.333/t) = 874.53/t lbs

    Note that if the energy is dissipated in 1 second  the equivalent force is 3.64 times the weight of the object.
