What would the professionals caring for your health such as psychiatrists, key workers etc do if you told them you felt they werent helping you properly and that you wanted to be struck of their caseloads?

would they try to convince you not to, would they care or not, or would they think, well if she doesnt care neither do we?

  1. I would have to say that the answer to this depends on the individual you are working with and the reason you want to be struck off their caseload.

I (as a therapist) don't take it personally if somebody wants to transfer and I let this be known to the patient at the beginning of their therapy. Some of my colleagues, on the other hand, take things more personally and get upset/try to convince the patient to stick it out.

I see it like this:  if the patient isn't getting help from me and they're paying for the service, then it's simply madness to continue to work with me, and I will do my best to ensure that patient gets a smooth transition to another therapist or modality of treatment.

Yes, sometimes it is clear that the patient isn't doing what is required of them to get better and... it's not so much "I don't care" as "They're not ready."

  2. I wouldn't trust the Hippocratic oath these days.

You want a professional you can trust. Find one yourself and pay him to give you the truth.

    Otherwise, always remain on guard.

  3. That type of job is probably like any other one and you feel only obligated to do the bare minimum after a while.  So they would probably be like oh-well.  I have another patient in an hour.  And i will find someone else to take her hour tomorrow.  And if they are not helping you you should find someone who dos'nt waste your time as well.

  4. They will try to still convince you to go. They want the money.

  5. depends on the clinic, why you go there, and how long you have been in there care.

there are some real good DR's out there. when my son stopped going, for the same reasons, his doc cared enough to suggest others. and even called me at home to see how he was doing and if he had found someone that he someone that he liked and trusted better.

but he stopped seeing one and he did't even get so much as a "good luck" from the doc. he ended up going back to the one who cared. it worked out well.
