What would the resale value be on a new Honda CRF230L?

Well I am thinking about buying a new Honda CRF230L but I am a little unsure if I will like it or not and really don't have that kind of money to throw around. If I don't like it what does everyone think I could get out it? I would hope I could sell it and loose no more than $600. I think because it is street legal and with gas prices so high it should be easy to sell.

  1. You could probably get about $100-$200 less than MSRP. So you'd be eating all the fees that the dealer hits you for (set-up, documentation) and the sales tax. Depending on where you live, there's a good chance that's be over $600. It also depends on where you live. It may take you a while to decide if you really want to keep it, and it's harder to get full price for a bike in the fall, at the end of the season, than it is in the spring. So, you'd either take a hit on the price this fall, or have to wait til next spring.

Have you considered watching ebay, craigslist, and other classifieds around you to look for a used dual-sport like a Yamaha XT225 or Suzuki DR200SE? Both are somewhat underpowered, but will also get good gas mileage. And since they're used, you won't take nearly as much of a hit on price. Just a humble opinion...
