What would the scifi equivalent of the 'Wheel of Time' series be?

I've been reading the series lately and just started thinking about what the scifi equivalent would be. I couldn't think of any so I thought I would ask here. =p

  1. Equivalent in what way?

    If you mean "long and complex," maybe the Dune books.  


  2. I agree that Dune might be an equivalent. It is a multigenerational series set on the planet Arakis (Dune) by Frank Herbert continued by his son and Kevin J. Anderson.

    Another possibility could be the Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey.

    Another possibility could be the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card.
