  1. It would be eskimo time

  2. England is on the same latitude as Canada - newfoundland and Quebec..........

we would not have an 'arctic' climate, because we are not above the arctic circle.

it would be a lot colder, especially in winter, but the sea is a huge heat sink, even without NAD (the gulf stream) the sea holds heat, and releases it slowly.

Greenland is an island and is unlikely to melt

  3. If the flow of the Gulf Stream were stopped or diverted, then UK would quickly return to the Iceage of c12,000-15,000 years ago when a 2mile high sheet of ice covered the island of Breten.

The thinking at the moment is that if/when the Gulf Stream stops, then ice will flow further south into what is at present quite warm water.  This ice will then start the freeze up of Breten and northern Continental Europa - parts of Northern Spain, France, Britanny, the Low Countries and the Viking lands including Danmark and Norge.

Actually what we're seeing at the moment are fish species moving north which formerlly occupied warmer waters to the south.  Already the massive Cornish Home-Fleet are catching huge shouls of sardines - these are now being backed off (fresh) to the restaurants of London where they are cooked up and sold to an ever demanding public as Cornish Sardines.

So, my own thinking is that we're not going to see a stopping of the Gulf Stream or a diversion of same - not yet anyway.

Before everyone goes entirely bonkers about Cornish Sardines, I should just like to point out that here in Breten, the sardine was always sold on as a Cornish Pilchard.  It's an adult sardine.  However, what we're getting now are the young fish swimming up into the now warmer waters of the Celtic Sea between the Celtic lands of Kernow, Wales and Ireland.

I'm not sure what the Bretons make of all of this madness, my guess is they are busy tending their muscle beds and making the usual fortune out of 'ze zhells'. . .

  4. We would plunge into an Arctic Winter. The gulf stream is the only thing other than the sun that gives our Island warmth...

  5. first, greenland is not going to melt in any kind of hurry. Second, the gulf stream is likely to continue indefinately. If it stopped, the uk temps might drop a little but it would not be as cold as Moscow because we are an island, warmed by the (relatively) warm sea. Finally, if the temperature rose to such an extent as to melt significant portions of sea ice, we would all be swinging in hammocks sippin pina coladas anyway.

  6. If you look at a map of the world, we are more or less on a parallel line with Canada and Russia. Moscow is directly in line with Newcastle. Both areas experience very cold winters with temperatures dropping to approximately -40 deg C during the coldest winter days.

Britain would experience similar winter temperatures if the Gulf Stream were to stop sending warm, temperate waters and temperatures against our shores.

  7. Ice-Age is as close as you can get,

    :- )

  8. colder with frozen ports.

  9. cold
