What would these conditions to to TRANSPIRATION in plants. Oh please helpppp????

Why would each of these conditions cause an increase or decrease in transpiration in plants.

Room temperature - (I don't know???)

A fan - (Increase because of the air???)

Light - (Decrease because of evaporation???)

Mist - (I don't know this one either???)

  2. It will help if you think of transpiration as the evaporation of water at the leaf's surface due to water being taken in for photosynthesis.

    So:

    Room temperature - this would depend on what the temperature was where the plant was before.  Plants will absorb more water when it's warmer, because warmer temperatures cause the water to evaporate faster.  So if you take a plant off a cold porch into a warm room, transpiration rate should increase.  But if you take it from a hot greenhouse and put it in a room with the AC turned up full, it will decrease.

    A fan - You're correct - air movement causes faster evaporation, so the transpiration rate will increase.

    Light - Here, you're incorrect.  If you increase the light, the plant will use the light to increase the rate of photosynthesis, so it will take in (and evaporate out) more water.  Also, if what you use is an incandescent light, these produce heat which also speeds up transpiration.

    Mist - When you mist a plant, you increase the humidity in the air around it.  It's becomes increasingly hard for more water to evaporate as the humidity level increases.  So this will slow down transpiration.
