  1. chicken coop

  2. It looks like a tool shed.  I have seen many of these (or things that look like them) in rural ontario.  I have never seen a pumping house and they are normally very remote.  Of course I do not know the location of this site.  The ones I have seen have no access to a well and have no supporting foundation.

Oh and as an aside, that is much larger than 1'x4'.

  3. could it be an outhouse? but a pump house makes more sense.

  4. I'd guess that its a tool shed for hoes, rakes, and the like. The doors are too small to be an equipment shed. the caption says its by its self, but there could have been a house near by in the past.

  5. It's an outhouse, a toilet, a crapper

  6. I wonder where the picture was taken. Where I used to live in Ks., there were lots of buildings about this size that were Meter Houses. They covered natual gas meters/valves etc. Doors are about the same size.

  7. I agree with tool shed.  I see no source of electricity (power pole, wires) so its probably not a pumphouse.  It is unlikely to be an outhouse because the door latches from the outside (note the latch on the top left-side of the door.)  It would latch from the inside if it were an outhouse.

  8. its a tool shed.

  9. I think it was a pump house. It's the right size for that. Did you take a look inside? A pump house would have been covering a hole about 6 to 8 feet deep. There might have been a house around close by many years ago that they have done away with completely and are farming over it. They may have left the pump house because of the hole and also because they might have wanted to use the water for watering cattle or something like that. Anyway, I'm just guessing along with you. It is an interesting  picture.
