What would type of batteryis recomended for a electric outboard that draws 30 amps constintly?

The smallest physically is better it need to fit into a 8 inch hatch on my kayak...

  1. You will need a good quality deep cycle battery.

    Look for the highest amp/hour rating you can get that fits into your battery size.

    Disregard the CCA or Cold Cranking Amps rating as it doesn't apply here.

    Slow charge the battery overnight.

  2. Are you sure it draws that consistently, rather than at peak power? Sounds like a 28 - 30 lb thrust motor. You probably wouldn't notice much difference in speed in a kayak if you ran it at 1/2 - 2/3 power.

    To get any kind of sensible running time, you'll need at least an 85AH Leisure (deep cycle) battery, but I doubt if it would fit an 8" hatch.

  3. most electric outboards require 4 deep cycle ( 48 volts ) batteries to run for any decent amount of time... you could try using only one deep cycle ( interstate batteries makes a good one ) but it will not hold a charge for long... maybe even just minutes...

  4. 30 amps 2 many amps read it again> or you will need a huge battery to last>
