Clearly all this teaching of abstinence doesn't work, but how could we truly solve the astronomical teen pregnancy rate?

  1. Abstinence works every time it's tried.

  2. teach them about safe s*x practices

  3. I honestly do not think that anything would make a dramatic difference. Teens are going to find a way to do what they want o do. And I do not think that sending teens to live with people who have children will change anything.

I was 19 when I got pregnant with my daughter, but before then I lived with my sister when her first baby was born for 18 months and then a couple of years later when her second was born.

I do not think that all teen pregnancies were on purpose, mine certainly wasn't.

Maybe if birth control was more readily available....

  4. a new show coming out - no, i'm serious. teens who THINK they want babies are sent to the house of a family with a small child/toddler, etc.  they have to take care of them for however long. from the ads i can see all of them end up in tears and not wanting children!

it's all a big game and so cute until they have to handle it themselves. real life experience would teach them. unfortunately too many of them are getting their real life experience with their own children - after they have them. it's sad.

  5. Teen pregnancy has nothing (or very little) to do with not knowing about s*x and birth control.

Teen pregnancy is a much deeper issue--about lack of self-respect, lack of feeling like someone loves them, lack of feeling that they are living a meaningful life.

I teach high school... The notes I find on the floor sometimes (and yes, I read them) indicate that girls are PURPOSEFULLY getting pregnant for various reasons... they think it will make the boy stay with them, to have someone to love, to punish their parents and so many other reasons.

It clearly has very little to do with s*x and lack of knowledge about how to prevent pregnancy. That is for sure!

  6. have them watch a video of women giving birth.

  7. I think abstinence only should be illegal or as bad as. It's not education and the only proof you need is all these "Can I get pregnant, he pulled out!!" questions you see. Teenagers have always have s*x and always will have s*x whether parents and priests like it or not. The only way to help is with a good thorough education on how the body works, how ovulation works, how s*x works, all the greasy details. The facts; how effective certain methods of birth control are, how precum can get you pregnant, how the girl being on top doesn't matter, and all the other baloney teenagers come up with on their own if they aren't taught properly.

    EDUCATION!!
