I know the horse market is down, AND unfortunately I live in Alabama where people are struggling so much they are giving horses away but here goes......

9 year old Leopard Appaloosa, registered

Gelded at 7 years old

-GREAT, GREAT (did I say GREAT) trail horse

-jumps logs, goes through creeks

-Loves trailering

-gets impatient with shoeing, but he's manageable

-complete A**hole in the pasture (he's the boss of all the other horses)

-very fast paced, always the leader of everything

-16.2 H, long mane (not typical of the App), scrappy mane,

1250 lbs (he's a big boy! Usually when he comes off a trailer somewhere i hear "thats one of the biggest Apps i've ever seen"

I paid $800 for him

What do you guys think??? I really want to get rid of him because I have started riding a Am Saddlebred, and as I said he's an A**hole in the field.

  1. Does he do anything other than trailering/cross country? Any hunter or dressage experience?

This horse needs a hard core rider.

The reason he's such a jerk to other horses is because he wasn't gelded until he was 7. At the age of nine he should be 100% trained walk, trot, canter and have some show experience under his belt.

At most $1000. And I'd add "OBO" to your add.

  2. if i had a better conformation shot of the horse i'd say a higher priece then the one i'm going to say, just b/c i cant see the horse/parts i need to see to make an offer.

i'd offer 1,000 dollars on a good day. but i'm in pa, not down south and i have a few extra bucks saved up for buying a horse. if i had to drive down to get the horse i'd take down the offer at least 500 dollars for shipping to where i lived, if i lived closer i'd eat the cost of shipping if it was under 40 miles. . . if over my offer starts to go down with the priece of gas.

but that's how i think when i go to make an offer.

    good luck

edit: he is the hieght of horse i like and i'm used to a horse being a "a-- hole" in the field (my qh was one so i learned from him, lol) so i know i'd offer 1,000-1,500 if he lived under 40 miles from me. (again depending on my mood)

  3. I would try $1,200.  Hopefully you can get $1,000.  With the economy and market, though, you may be lucky to get what you paid.

His size might help you out, though.

  4. Don't know much about the price but make sure he gets a good home. There are way too many people that think they want a horse and later find out that they don't know how to care for them or cant afford to care for them.  Put him before the dollar.  Don't get me wrong i'm not saying anything bad about your horse or you. I think he is a beauty. Get the most that you can while making sure he is cared for FIRST.

  5. It sounds like u hate him and I would sell him for a rescue price so like $500-800.

  6. What kind of rider does he need? (I would think probably an intermediate to experienced because of the fact of how late he was gelded)  If he does not need an experienced rider then you could probably up the price because he appeals to a larger market...

You could advertise him as an excellent cross country horse by the sounds of it, if he takes well to everything thats thrown at him on the trail.

The reason he is bossy in the feild is because he was gelded so late, and therefore still acts like a stallion, the leader of the herd.

I would think you could probably fetch around $1500 for him, but I would be prepared to negotiate on that price. If he does not sell for $1500, drop the price to say.. $1300 and advertise that his price is reduced... that way people think their getting a bargain lol....

The advertisement I would probably use for him would be something like

9 year old, athletic, appaloosa gelding. 16.2hh, suit _____, to ________ rider. Would suit cross country, endurance, western or trail riding. Strong front and hind quarters. Is a natural leader of a herd and is prone to dominating other horses. $1500 o.b.o

  7. I think around 1000 maybe 1200. he is a nice looking horse, but it depends what that future owner is looking for. Good luck!

  8. no more than $800

  9. Ask for $1250 or $1200.

In your ads, say that all reasonable offers will be considered.

And accept any offers that are reasonable to you, $1000 or $800, but I wouldn't go much lower than that.

  10. wow, if my coat was that color i would be mean in the pasture too,

being really honest i wouldnt even think about buying him
