  1. Yea skip the meatloaf but if you want to work with ground beef do the meatballs instead, and yeah if you do cake do something like lemon cake, or chocolate cake in order to cater to everyone young and old. Not everyone are pie people and some pie people need icecream with that pie. Do white and wheat breads of choice with butter, and definately keep the potatoes and salad. It's affordable and fills folks up and gives you those sidedishes with the heavy meats. Go with basic salad dressings though. Do greenbeans and or mixed veggies. Corn is a great veg but different people like it different ways. You can overcook corn and it can stick to your teeth we hate that. If you do those red potatoes will you have them flavored with rosemary, garlic, etc... or are you planning on serving gravies. Ham is okay I suppose but sounds even better with something cheesy. Okay I hope this helps I love to cater to large crowds and I'm hungry.....

  2. NO MEATLOAF. It isn't a dinner party food. Have baked chicken b*****s or leg quarters baked WITH the roasted potatoes with a splash of white wine over it and some fresh chopped parsley. Add some green beans or the corn,  the salad, rolls and the cake. This would be super affordable.

  3. hmmmm.... for the salad, have a variety!!! pasta and regular!  the rest is fine. and no, corn on the cob is not to messy for a party. for a more sophisticated look, cut it in half! not as messy and takes less time to eat!

  4. get rid of meatloaf...aquired taste..not everyone likes!

maybe do a roast beef or turkey

  5. Fresh garden salad and a variety of dressings.

    Sliced ham.

Sliced roast beef or cook and slice up a turkey

    Roasted red baby potatoes.

    Corn on the cob.

A green veg of your choice.(green beans, brocolli etc.)

    Slab cake for dessert.

You can usually purchase a turkey for a reasonable price, especially if you buy utility grade.Slice ahead of time and reheat if need be.I would not go with the meatloaf.

  6. Take off the meatloaf.   Not many people like it.   I would replace it with something else.   Maybe sliced roastbeef or prime rib.

  7. I have to agree with everyone that says NO meatloaf. While i love it my husband wont touch it. Why are you serving two meats!? Just do one...I wouldnt do ham either a lot of people wont eat it. You need to do a basic beef or chicken.

  8. Not everyone likes meatloaf, my husband hates it.  You might try sandwich platters.

  9. Corn on the Cob.

Apple and Peach Pie instead of cake

  10. I think the corn is unnecessary.  You already have potatoes, and corn isn't that exciting.  I'd substitute a fruit salad...... Also, you might want to substitute a vegetarian, chicken or fish dish instead of 2 meat entrees  (maybe vegetarian lasagna?)  I think the meatloaf is fine, but perhaps change the ham to something else.  Not everyone can eat ham (dietary or religious reasons)......keep the cake!  Maybe platters of cookies, but no pies:)  They're difficult to make for alot of people, and not everyone likes pie (like me)

  11. ditch meatloaf....pasta salad, corn on the cob, peach pie ( I love peach lie!!!) apple pie, and the dinner rolls. mmmm

    ( am I invited??   lol).

  12. If you're trying to keep costs low, I'd go with chicken parts and forget both the meatloaf and ham.   Then I'd do some better side dishes, most of which you can prepare ahead of time.

The roasted red potatoes sound nice.

With corn, make a simple corn pudding.  Just google it - there's a ton of recipes on the net that have like 5 ingredients (mainly canned corn, milk and eggs).  Everyone loves it and you can make it ahead of time.

Add another green veggie - either plain green beans or a big pan of sauteed zuchini, onions and peppers (just saute in oil with salt and pepper).

Right before the party, see what fruits are on sale and make a huge fruit salad.  There's tons of easy dips on the net, like the one with cream cheese, marshmallow fluff and a bit of orange juice.

Finally, don't forget an assortment of rules.  Most stores have these in their store brand and you can get pumpernickel, etc in addition to plain white.
