What would you consider to be the best radar detector?

Assuming the "detector" we're talking about here is legal in all states.

I know that radar detector's are illegal in alot of states-one I know for sure is Virginia. I briefly owned one-it was more annoying-going off for stupid stuff- sold it- better just doing the speed limit-

Here in Austin they station motorcycle cops on the overpasses. They shoot you after you pass so if your detector goes off it's too late. I've been an electronics tech for 52 years, driving for 52 years and personally think that all a radar detector will do is give you a false sense of security and get you bagged, big time.

There  is no radar detector that is "legal" in all fifty States; some States ban them entirely and their possession and use is forbidden by law.  That being said, Uniden makes a very good detector.  (Check with your local DMV for legality before dropping a hundred plus dollars on purchasing a unit).

I just got a KAT Model DLS315

It says it is both MicroScan and SmartScan

And for those people, that think they go the speed limit, everybody in California goes 90 miles an hour on the freeway and only few chosen ones get the ticket.  Girls always seem to get a warning, most of the times verbal, so people have things to do go the speed limit all the time, not only that, you will get rear-ended by some angry driver if you are going the speed limit.

I have no idea . I think all cars should come fitted with one like they often have alarms. This would help the driver slow down as the speed signs do not work. This is because the speeds signs are often not there, hidden behind other signs or too difficult to read.  Good luck.

Valentine V1 is the best detector money can buy. It is only available by direct mail and costs about $400. There are several states in the U.S. where detectors are considered illegal -- it has nothing to do with manufacture.

i've had two V1's and they were 'good'.  but i still got caught when i was younger.  

like someone said up there, just dont go too crazy with the speed.  most cops trying to pull you over anyway use the laser guns; which by the way you are not fast enough to respond.  i am sure people claim they are the best drivers in the world and are the most alert, but can you believe that people are faster than light (besides superman)?
