So I am graduating on Saturday with a B.S. in environmental science and am currently looking for a job. I started looking for jobs a week and a half ago, and received on call back and went for the interview. It is with a Lawn and Tree care company, and I would be a Lawn and Plant Health Technician. I would identify diseases, mix and spray chemicals, spread seed, and do other tasks associated with lawn and tree health. The job is 55 hours a week and would be hard work. I would not have much time to go to interviews and they want me to start right away. Full benefits 12.00 per hour. What would you do? I didn't really go to college to be a lawn care person. But its the only offer so far. Would you take the job? Can I do better?

  1. You can use this as a stepping stone to get experience.  However, if you really want to be an environmentalist, you can apply at EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) or Greenpeace.

  2. dont no

  3. you can give it a try, sometimes what we've perceiving in our mind are often not really true, the job is fun i think....

  4. it could help with other resumes

but if you want to hold off then thats your decision

  5. It is very difficult to start out on top.  I graduated a couple of years ago, and I looked for a couple of months while I was finishing up my degree.  I was lucky to get a very good job, but it wasn't quite what I wanted.  I have built a strong relationship with those where I work and I am now financially stable enough to take some risks.  I'm not saying you should or should not take the job, but if you can handle the work it would be good for you to take it if nothing else comes along.

If nothing else it would be good to have on your resume that you can do hard work and you would be very committed to working.  Plus you have something to pay the bills with.

    I hope this helps

  6. bS GOT YOU 2 BUCKS MORE AN HOUR THAN MACDONALD.

  7. I think you can do better...but if it's all you can find for now, at least it's money and something more to add to your resume.  Can you be honest with them and tell them you don't want this for long term and if any other interviews come up that you will need to take an hour or two from the job and attend them.  Although that's a long shot and probably not...if they knew that then they most likely wouldn't have hired you.

Tough call, but I may take it and keep applying for other jobs.  You can always quit....or when other interviews come up, tell them you work until such and such time and they will have to be after work.  If this is the case alot of companies  will be willing to accommodate you.

  8. Have you applied to the US gov? There should be plenty of good jobs for someone with your training but you may need to re-locate.

No, I would not work for a lawn care co.
