What would you do ? ( Hypothetical situation )?

Question

I’m your son ( age 11 -- 15 ), and I’ve been making a habit of shoplifting, skipping school and neglecting my chores and my schoolwork . Recently, I’ve stopped shoplifting, started going to school EVERY DAY, started working VERY HARD on my schoolwork and started getting all “A's”, and started working VERY HARD on all my chores . What would you do ? Do you think I'd deserve to be rewarded ? Would you punish me for shoplifting, skipping school and neglecting my chores and schoolwork ?

Well most of us like to or love to be appraised & praised. I don`t see anything wrong with telling the child that he`s doing a great job & that I`m proud & to keep up the great work. Especially since he starting doing well all on his own. As for appraisal (a reward). I think that would encourage the child even more. My father use to give me $1 for every A I got. So I was sure to get all A`s!

First thing, when I found out you where steeling, and failing in you your grades, I would have whipped your @$$. Then, after I patched up from the @$$whipping I administered, i would sit down with you and try and talk to you. I would try and understand what is it that has made you go astray. After we have our talk, I would take you on a tour of the local correctional facility so you can see where you might end up at if you continued your behavior. Once I see improvement, I might help you put down on a car for your birthday or pay for you and some friends to have a small party celebrating your change for the better. And I would make sure that you understand that even though I may seem hard on you at times, it's because I love you and I want you to do better. So that you don't end up being one of those men landing in and out of jail. I would want you to understand that no matter how big or small your problems may be, you can always come and talk to me.

OK going to school and getting A's great. I would reward you with quality time. There is this thing and it is called family game night. You don't know h**l until you go through it.

I would know where you were going and keep your act clean but i would also as long as you were where you told me to be and doing all of your chores and attending family game night allow you out.  

Your reward would be the freedom to leave the house.

it's really your job to be doing good! i'd probably praise you, but for what you've done, you don't deserve a physical reward yet. continue the good work and maybe you'll get something. :(

i would piunish you for your crimes and for punishment you would go to school do chores and clean up your act...hopefully your not doing this?

Perhaps make his allowance performance and behaviour  related.
