I'm writing a short story about a personal experience that happen in my life. I changed the names of my friends for their privacy . I wanted to put the exact locations where the events happened but some say I shouldn't. If I do whoever knows me will figure it out because the cities aren't that big. maybe around 3000 to 6000 people in each city. What should I do? If you think I shouldn't use the exact cities please suggest some cities for me to use.

Thank you

  1. Finally, a question with something other than the "how can I tell if they like me" syndrome!  Yeesh!  LOL

Okay, moving on...  You can make up fictional names for the cities and places you are referring to and still tell the story with a description of what/where you are talking about.  I would just keep a list of the corresponding names so you can keep track.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. Depends if the cities are relevant or not. The story would probably still work in another setting. Just pick random places out of an atlas. If they know your the author though they could probably still figure it out. Maybe change your name rather than actual facts.
