patient has rales, bounding pulse and also has dyspnea while intravenous fluid is ongoing.

  1. If you're the doctor, you stop the infusion first and then IMMEDIATELY put the patient in full Fowler's. If you're the nurse or another healthcare practitioner, you put the patient in fulll Fowler's first and then IMMEDIATELY call the doctor for an order to stop the infusion, unless your hospital's protocols allow you to do so yourself in such a  situation.


  2. Remember your ABC's. This is always the priority when treating any patient scenario.

    You would first place the patient in Fowler's to assist in breathing, THEN you would stop the infusion. Ten seconds more of fluid will not make that much a difference, but respiratory distress is much more critical.

    Then you would push the diuretics, if they're peeing, or get them dialysis if they're not.
