What would you do if someone broke into your house?

Question

Your home alone and your answering a question on yahoo answers. You hear the front door screech open. You figure its your mom or dad but you check anyways. Someone has broke into your house. The phone is down stairs and you don't have a cellphone. You tip toe back into your room so the intruder won't hear you. The sound of footsteps are getting closer and closer. What do you do?

I would try to message for help over the computer or hide in the closet until he left.

This is weird, I have had someone break into my house while I was on Yahoo Answers. Three black guys broke into my house, I shot and killed two of them, the third got away from me, but was killed later by the police.

Since you said no cellphone/mobile phone I'll pretend I don't have a land line in my room as well since that's get out of it easily.

I'd lock the door quietly then likely log onto MSN/YiM and ask anyone online and in the same country to phone the police. If that wasn't possible I'd likely get one of the various heavy implements of pain lying around my room and try surprise or sneak up on and beat the intruder into unconsciousness or not being able to move. Then restrain the intruder and phone the police. I'd not try face on since if they're breaking in they're probably armed at least a knife. I'd not try to kill them because I'd be in more trouble than just letting them steal anything is worth then. Guns aren't allowed here so no shooting either.

Of course I'd most likely be locked up for doing so, as I understand it the law here basically says you can't do anything apart from call the police unless they attack you first and then only use reasonable force. People have gotten in a lot of trouble for attacking thieves that broke in.

edit: if he was coming near my room then i would hit him in the head with the lava lamp, or my metal lamp.

Tie an electric cable to the door handle on the inside and the moment one of them grabbed the door handle on the outside, push the switch down.  But then again I don't intend spending the rest of my life in jail for electrocuting some low life.  If they did break into the room then you would have to defend yourself and take what was coming on the otherhand you should try and get away, climb out the window and get to a neighbours house or stop the first police officer you see.  Guns cannot be used here aswell and if you injure a burglar then you could end up sharing a prison cell with him/her.  How  f****d up is that?
