What would you do if you knew someone was going to throw away a package of meat?

This actually happened to me as a friend of mine going back to Italy was going to throw out several packages of sliced pork. I know what I would do and did but am curious to see how others view and or would handle it. As much as I believe it is wrong to kill and eat animals for the sake of our palates I also believe it wrongful to waste something that could potentially be used.

  1. I would give it to omnivorous family, friends, or neighbors, feed it to carnivorous companion animals, donate it to a food bank (although many do not accept perishables,) hand it out to a homeless person, or throw it out into the woods behind my house for other animals.

  2. My family are all omni's so I'm sure they would be happy to eat it. I hate wasting food too. Of course I wouldn't eat it though. :)

  3. Applaud. Offer support and celebrate!

No, I would not even offer it to a dog if I loved the dog. Why would I want to poison anyone with growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids and flesh foods that are going to clog up someone's colon for two weeks? Makes no sense. I don't dislike anyone enough to do that to them.

  4. i agree with u 100% tell her u want the food, and you know someone who could use it,

wasting food is, in my opinion, one of the most disgusting things a person can do.

take the meat from her! just because ur a vegetarian, doesnt mean u dont see homeless people occasionally. or feed to to your dog... whatever it takes, NEVER EVER waste food

i would take off ur hands but i dont eat pig- sorry.

  5. My family eat meat. I usually cook vegan meals, they add meat to those meals only if they can be bothered to cook it themselves, so my family would happily eat it, particularly if it was pre-cooked.

Being Vegan is my choice, I live in a part of the world that allows me to make that choice. My family understand and support my decisions and I do the same for them. I personally prefer that somebody ate the meat rather than throwing it away or giving it to an animal.

  6. What someone else does with Meat has no baring on me. I don't eat it..PERIOD.

Yes I hate waste, I might have suggested it be taken to a homeless shelter.

  7. I eat as little meat as possible for environmental, economic, and ethical reasons.

However, if the animal is already dead an paid for, nothing is going to bring it back from the dead and not eating it isn't going to take back the money that has gone to the meat producing industry. The environmental damage has already been done, and if it is being given away for free that it's no strain on the pocketbook.

I would definitely find a use for it, although I don't usually cook with pork so it would take some creativity. I don't know how readily food banks take meat.

But wasting it would be the worst possible outcome of the situation.

  8. If it was still good, I would give it to a local foodbank.

  9. I'm veggie.

Veggies don't eat meat. It doesn't matter if its free, high quality, come with a gold wrapper or its National "give meat a try" week.

So, someone dumping meat right next to me would have no relavence to my life.

Using the "its better to eat it than waste it" arguement can also be extended to vegetarians begging for the last burger in McDonalds at closing time. when you look at it that way, it makes no sense.

If the meat is seen as waste, it will encourage the owner to buy less next time. THATS why is makes no sense to use it, they would be better seeing it waste away - it'll reduce thier purchase next time.

Feed it to your dog and before you know where you are they are buying some specifically for your pets. It makes no sense to encourage that.

  10. I'm vegetarian but I would still find a use for the meat.

As me taking the meat in this case would not directly fund or otherwise support the slaughter market I would not feel any guilt in using the meat for feeding my cats and dog. If the packages were exceptionally big I'd also consider indirectly giving it to the hungry.

As wrong as it is to kill animals it would be like their deaths were for no reason at all if someone didn't use them.

  11. I would have given it to someone who would use it. I don't believe in eating animals, but I also don't believe in wasting. If the animal is already dead, it would be horrible that he died in vein. At least someone should use (and potentially appreciate) his sacrifice.

  12. Actually this kinda happens to me every once a year. My husbands mom gives us meat - like after thanks giving or xmas. - but my husband that does eat meat, does not eat it. I have never eaten meat, so I am not going not. -

So if the meat is still okay, I feed it to my dogs and cats.

Its weird, my husband eats meat, but than at home he does not want to.

  13. What about offering it to a meat eater?  Waste is terrible

  14. Smack him/her upside the head.
