My 19 year old son dropped out of college and says he is joining the military for 4 years. When I asked him what he plans to do with his life after the army, he says that he will commit suicide. He wasnt joking either and he says that this has been his plan for his whole life and that that he feels it is good to "burn out rather than wither away". What should I do knowing that my son will be dead soon.

  1. let his recruiting officer know because if they know a person is suicidal they aren't suppose to allow them into the military, my ex's friend got kicked out for just saying he was going to do it.  Then get some serious councling for him.

  2. oh man, call the mental hospital no matter how hard it is for you it depends on HIS life, please help him andn take him to amental hospital if he refuses to go then call the cops, they will take him.,,,

    hope this helps!good luck

  3. call the cops and put him in a nut institution! im serious!

  4. maybe the army will do some good, they do straighten people out. a lot of teenagers say this, idk why. and if he feels that way the army with get him psychiatric help too. are you religious talk with people from church. im sorry. im 23 and have two kids 3 yr old son and a 6 week old daughter and cant imagine when they are teenagers. when i was a teenager i was always suicidal and my husband always got into trouble with the law. we are completely different people then back then, you would have never known were trouble kids.

  5. IM SCARED!!! PHSYCHIATRY HELP!!! ANGER MANAGEMENT!!! SOMETHING FAST

  6. He needs help!

  7. This is not the first time he has said something like this is it? You know him better than us so you need to figure out what he is looking for from you.  Most people who commit suicide dont advertise it. 4 years is a long time and you cannot force a 19 year old into treatment unless he has already tried to hurt himself.  Talk to him alot.  Write to him alot you will find out what is going on if you want to.

  8. Get him some help.  Call the police if you have to.  Most likely if he is planning on committing suicide after leaving the Army he doesn't mind dying while he's in which means he could have some risky behavior that can put other soldiers at risk too.  He needs to stop and get help now.

  9. umm if this question is real dont worry the army wont take someone suicidal even with how desperate they are

  10. It's likely that his attitude will change in the military. If he really does feel this way, it will reveal itself in the high-stress atmosphere he'll experience in the Army. Then, they'll force him to get help.

  11. The boy needs a good shrink for sure. It's probably more of an attention grabbing threat, but you need to find out why he's saying it.

  12. Get him mental help...fast.  Sounds like it's 19 years past due.
