My best friend gave me a white gold and diamond journey necklace for my 18th birthday. I absolutely loved it, and I didn't take it off until I had to for prom because i was wearing a different one. After prom when I went to put it back on I couldnt find it anywhere, I turned my house upside down looking for it, called the limo ppl, asked friends, went to look at the cottage we were staying at... I had no idea where it was and I felt soooo bad for losing it and I didn't want to tell her, so I searched everywhere for the matching necklace for almost 2 months and found it at a jeweler in my city and I re-bought it. I didn't want to have to tell her, but this way she'll never know and I'll make sure to take much better care of it.

Did I do the right thing?

  1. Well ummmm.... i think u should of told her..... After i re-bought it because you will have that on ur chest for abt a long time.... U DID THE RITE THING!!!! She will love u 4 that as in friends!!!!

  2. id cry

  3. Thats a kinda funny story. But really though if shes your best friend she should know you well enough to know that you didn't mean to lose it. I would tell her that you bought another one just so you wouldn't hurt her feeling she might get a good laugh out of it. Good Luck!

  4. It may have been best to be honest with her from the start.  But since you've already bought a replacement...it may just hurt her if you tell her the truth now.  I say, let her keep thinking it's the one she bought you.  She'll be happier in the unknown which is better than you relieving your guilty conscience.

  5. You do the right thing. But if your friend ask you about the necklace, that means she is "in doubt". At that moment you'd better tell her the truth, and you'd better tell her how hard you found a similiar one, not with the intention to lie to her, but won't want to hurt her. I think she will be fine.

  6. yes definitely.. i'd be really sad if i were her, that's really sweet of you :)

  7. Well what you did wasn't terrible.  But it would've been nice if you told her the truth and bought her a present.

  8. awww, i think it's sweet you went through so much trouble and if she knew you went through all that she would love you for it. I think if you tell her the whole story she would be flattered. Either way though you have the necklace and everyone is happy. If you told her in the first place she probably wouldn't have excepted you to buy a new one hehe i think you should tell her, cause it's cute!! :)

  9. things get lost.  you're not the first person to lose a sentimental gift... it's not like you did it on purpose.

it was nice you could find another one to replace it, since you liked it so well.

i agree with the other answerer who said to talk about it with your friend someday in the future... i don't think it's important to tell her at all, though....

  10. yeah, i'd tell her later on when it's laughable

    you did the right thing

just tell her in a few months or a year so she can't be mad
