What would you do if you suspected your neighbors of neglecting or abusing their pet?

For the past 5 years or so, my neighbors have had this dog. She is a yellow lab and is known around the neighborhood for being very sweet. The problem is, my neighbors are extremely neglectful of her. I have never once seen her inside their house, they leave her outside all day and all night. I live in Alberta, Canada, so the winters can get extremely cold (-38) and the summers can be very hot too (35). When it's that hot out, they don't even leave water outside for her, so various neighbors come and give her water every few hours. It has always been hard to watch her, and lately she hasn't been looking very good. She's extremely bloated, and she walks with a limp. Yet they still never let her inside. I know it may not be any of my business, but it's just so hard to see her out there suffering. What would you do?

  1. You should call animal control or animal cops. This dog is being neglected. You can ask then to leave your name as anonymous. They will come and check out the dog, and determine if it is being neglected or not. They will leave a notice on the door and will give them about a week to take her to the vet. They will come back in another week, and see if there has been changes. If they took care of the dog, they will let them off with a warning, but if she didn't improve, they will take her into custody and bring the owners to court. You will be doing a very good thing. And yes, user name Me or Him? 35 degrees Celsius is like 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is hot.

  2. nothing/   35 is hot?!?!!?   btw its none of ur business is it rlly bothers u that bad call animal control  or animal cops or w/e

  3. Contact your local animal shelter and they will take care of the dog and probably press charges against the owners.

  4. It most certainly is your business.  The poor dog can't speak so you need to speak for her.  Seeing the abuse  and neglect she endures each and every day gives you the right to report the owners to the proper authorities in order to get the dog out of there.  She deserves much better treatment then she is currently getting.  She is probably sick and is obviously in pain with the limping.  Please get her help as soon as possible.  You need to speak up for the sake of the dog because she has no voice in matters like this.  Do the right thing and report them.

  5. call the police, or animal control.

  6. I would talk to the neighbors first, but make sure you sound friendly, like you are making a suggestion. A confrontational thing will make everything worse.

If there is still a problem, or they react negatively, then the police or animal control is the way to go.

  7. Call the local ASPCA.  If these is none, call your state dog warden.

  8. Contact you local humane society and let them investigate.

  9. Why don't you just ask them if you can have her?

  10. Call the Humane Society and they will come out and investigate the situation.

  11. Call SPCA and report them for neglect. If she doesn't have any food or water and/or not getting proper vet care, that is animal abuse. If she is a sweet dog she deserves a better home than what she has.

  12. it's definitely your business, when an animal is being abused/neglected. call the humane society and the cops to report this. that poor dog needs help asap!

  13. call the cops, or animal control.

    poor dog :[

  14. call the animal cops

  15. Yes this can be your buisness!  You can help that animal by calling animal control and they will investagate and possabally take their dog and find a new home for it.  I'm suprized nobody has yet.  That is how somebody in my neighbor hood is and they got their dog taken away and it got a new better home.  And you also have backup proof (other neighbors) to tell.  I hope this helps and the dog gets a better home!

  16. do a community art program and make the dog a doggie house. its all you can do without without confronting them.

  17. report,report,report- no doubt

  18. call animal control, i live in the us so i don't know the rules in Canada but im sure theres an animal control

  19. Oh my you need to report these people asap to your local humane officers. There is NO excuse for animal abuse, and that's what this is. Your neighbors won't know who called, it is kept confidential. I had to call on a neighbor years ago because of the disgusting conditions they kept their two dogs in.

  20. If her stomach is bloated, she probably has worms.  Poor baby.  This is a great example of why sometimes I think I like animals better than I do humans.  No, I'm pretty sure I do prefer animals over humans...helpless animals that rely on us, and ******* can't even care for them properly.  Call an animal rescue shelter near your home.  They will send someone out to ensure that they are not abusing the animal.  They have a long definition for abuse, so your neighbors will probably fall in that category.  Give the doggy lots of treats!  :)

  21. I'm sure you wouldn't stand by and let this happen if it was a human baby being neglected, just because you thought it was none of your business. Call the animal authorities, and tell them what you suspect. When a child or animal is being abused, it is everyone's business. Good luck!

  22. Abuse and neglect of animals and humans is everyone's business.  If that were me, I'd call my local SPCA and talk to them about it.

  23. Okey first of all I agree with you, but sorry I must some what make fun of you "Of coarse you haven't seen her in their house! Unless you hide in their clossets and look!" See? The making fun of was not that bad!  Any way, I'd report them to the police.

  24. Call the SPCA.... or your local animal shelter...

Don't stand by and let a defenseless animal get abused...

  25. I would take the dog to a vet and the people to court for ownership of the dog. And to pay for the vet costs of course. If she is walking with a limp and bloated it is possible that she has been hit by a vehicle and has internal injuries. Then I would kick the neighbor's ***.

  26. You should definitely report this to the SPCA, people like that do not deserve to have any pets.  It is a fact that people who abuse animals are also candidates to abuse people. Please report this and do not worry, they will never know who reported them, as it is in confidence. That poor dog has no life other than the one they are subjecting him to. I sure hope you or someone does the right thing, so that this abused animal will experience some quality of life before its' life ends. It is rare that I use the word hate, but I really hate people who are abusive. Please do the right thing. Good luck.

  27. That is a felony, the cops can arrest for animal cruelty. Call them when it's very hot or very cold so he/she can get busted and get what he/she deserves!

  28. Call SPCA definately.

  29. I'ld report them in a heart beat, but that's just me.

  30. Call the Humane Society. You can most likely put in an anonymous call to them and they could survey the problem and decide on a solution. It could be you are misreading the situation (hopefully) but as an avid animal lover myself, I would just put in a call, it can't hurt. If you discuss the situation as you see it with them they may even give you a suggestion or two on what to do about it!

On the website there is actually a "report abuse" link, so maybe that would help!

  31. Video tape it and call the police
