Being a dork is in the eye of the beholder. You might be a dork for asking a dumb question (which DO exist). So are you thinking you would tell your commanding officer "NO!" ? I understabd where you're coming from, risking a whole squad to save one guy when in the end most of them died anyway...but look at the end-they DID indeed save PVT. Ryan and thus were successful .I would obey orders.

Try and "save" him!  The Army has a "thing" about orders being followed, like follow them or else!
