Hello All,

It's me again! :)

I have another question related to career changes. If you were working at a job for 3 years but you were unhappy there because there was no where to move up the corporate ladder even though the pay was good, would you stay or move on to a job that would make you happier?

The reason that I ask is because I am currently in this situation.

Thank in advance for your feedback.

  1. Id look to leave while you are still there.. dont just quit before you find a new job. and also, find a job that pays more or, at least, the same or else it's just not worth leaving.

(Doing the same thing, working for a failing biotech company. lol)

  2. i would take the other job if there was room for advancement and the pay wasnt too low to affect paying my bills on time.

its better to be happier with your job and have a smaller paycheck.

money isnt everything even tho its important, your happiness means more.

think of all the additional benefits.

you will age less bc less stress! you will actually want to get up to go to work! you will feel proud of your work! and ppl that come in contact your great attitude will affect much more than just work!

take the other job! good luck. i know its a tough decision.

  3. What's more important to you: your happiness at the job, or the money? This is not a cut-and-dried situation. You have to really assess what you consider more important in your life overall.

Would you rather have the money to do what you want and dread going into work every day, or would you rather LOVE your job, and maybe have some financial concerns? If you did what you loved, could you pay your bills?

Studies have shown that people who love what they do end up usually earning more money at their chosen professions. They work harder at improving themselves, they get more promotions and they have a much happier existence overall, money notwithstanding!

If you're young, it's a lot easier to search around for a job you love, rather than settling on a career that's not what you want. The older you get the harder this will be---so consider the future, as well.

  4. Well no room for advancement? Can you change your situation as in furthering your education and or experience to make yourself more promotable? You could get another job and end up in the same situation so see if it is the company, or yourself. No 32 is not to old to go back to school I went back at 48 and now have a BSBA, and yes it has made a difference.

  5. it depends on your age, if your aged 20-30 and have a good resesma then why not go for a funner, more oppurtunitive job. however if your approching middle age i wouldnt reccomend looking for a new job as you may struggle to find work you enjoy later in your life.

    good luck!!!!

  6. Move! If there's no room for advancement, it's likely you'll continue to be unhappy, which lower your quality of life, no matter how good the salary is.
