i understand that the contest needs to be fair and have some rules but i have all kind of proof of my address and instead of them assisting me on a case by case situation. i even asked the manager to listen to the call between myself and the dj which was recorded and she said no because still i gave this address.the contest rules are not disclosed at the time of the call and are not posted on the radio stations website either. one winner per household, well this is not my household.

  1. Contest rules must be posted and easily understandable and accessible to the entrants. If they are/were not, you have a case and the manager is playing with fire. Especially if it is a relatively minor prize like a DVD or contest tickets. She really should reconsider. If you want to email me the call letters of the station or the frequency and city, I will check out the ownership information for you and get a better idea of the size and credibility of the station. You don't have to reveal your name to me.

If it comes to it, you can complain to the FCC and that wil get their attention pretty quick. It will also get it out of the hands of the manager and into corporate (unless it's a small station and the manager is the owner).

When you get to the site click: Deceptive or unlawful advertising or marketing by a communications company (does NOT include Telemarketing) and continue from there.

  2. The rules are posted on the stations website but are usually hidden under about 10 lines of stuff

For example, everyone asks about KIIS in L.A. , their rules are on their website but under extras Third row down on a java script that produces rules that were written by a team of lawyers, not understandable for most.

But yep, the others won a contest in the last 30 days (Is usually the limit) , however most stations won't give it to you either if you are from outside the local listening area (they call it DMA) so basically they have you by their own rules as some play these contests just to win (You can see this as an example in relation to all of the contest questions on here on Y! A Radio) and stations use these rules that may hurt the innocent to corral the "prize hogs"

  3. The station manager wins this round, but it's not a knockout.

If you are only visiting and gave your host's address, but you don't live there, I understand where the manager is coming from.

However, reasonable radio ethics would assume that potential contest winners would be able to read and/or understand what all of the contest rules are BEFOREHAND. If the station didn't do that, that is poor judgment on the station's behalf.

They should perhaps offer you a consolation prize since there were mistakes made on both sides. That would seem a fair compromise.

  4. Well show proof of your place of residency.  Go to the station or fax it.

Was it something real good.  You are lucky to win and someone that you are visiting win also.
