What would you do if your....

okay i woke up this morning and my father ask me who will be the maid of honor in my wedding and i told him my cousin and one of my best friend..he said oh i need to change that to someone much older and if i don't he will not attend my wedding. he gave me two options to choose from the first option was a woman who oppose my relationship and hate my bf and the second option is someone we don't even know!! he said the reasons why he wants someone older is because if i get sick these people will be able to help me and take care of me if my husband cant. i don't know what to do or how to feel. my cousin whom i choose to be my maid of honor is 27 years old so she is not young. i don't understand what is wrong with him. he was all upset and stuff. what would you do if you was in my situation?

Your dad sounds like he doesn't even understand what a maid of honor does - try explaining to him that her only responsibilities are to do things like plan the wedding shower, and help address invitations and such, and that she has no obligation to take care of you or anything like that. It's a maid of honor, not a godmother.

For the lack of support and such a crazy reasoning on his part I would have who I want by me on my day and risk him not attending!

Whst exactly does that mean take care of you if you get sick and your husband cant? the day of the wedding?

That sounds stupid im sorry, but you choose who YOU want to be your maid of honor. The person(s) who have been there for you through it all . The maid of honor is suppose to help be your sanity that day and if you dont like or even know the person how can you feel comfortable calling them to vent or rely on them to organize the other bridesmaids. im surprised your father is being so selfish.  If he didnt come because of something so trivial then thats his cross to bear. Dont let it get you down, its suppose to be a happy time. You pick who you want and dotn let anyone tell u otherwise.

If it was me, and my father did that, i guess id have one less person at the wedding. I love my dad but i would be more confused why hes so concerned about whose in the wedding. Tell him to get a hobby and stop worrying about the bridal party.

Your maid of honor is someone who is supposed to stand up and be willing to attend to you in this wedding and this marriage. Honey I'm going  to tell you what I told my friend when she had to chose: Pick the person that will keep the car running and be your getaway driver if you change your mind or the person you'd trust to hold your hair back while you puke if you had too much fun at the reception.

Marriage is an ocassion where the blessings are needed from our loved ones and no curse should be there at any point in time. So rather than going for a person whom u dont like, may as well go for the person whom you dont know.. Atleast you can butter the other person whom you dont know..

you dad is being obsurd! the whole take care of you if you get sick??? your maid of honor doesn't move in with you.  If I were you I would pick who ever I wanted and just let him get over it.

This sounds quite odd, at best. Why on earth would you choose either of those women for your MOH? The MOH is to be someone who is very close to the bride, who will help her prepare for hte wedding ceremony, not take care of her for the rest of her life. I've never heard of that in my life.

Where are you from? I don't think you're from the USA. Maybe your culture has a different idea of the purpose of a MOH????

I really hate threats. Your father threatening to not attend your wedding over that is so wrong. Tell him he'll be missed, and leave it at that. If he wants to play that idiotic game, play back.
