4th quarter; 55 seconds remaining.

Your team leads by 1 point (example: 35-34).

The other team has all 3 timeouts.

It's 3rd and 8; you have the ball on your own 30 yard line.

What play do you call?

Both teams' defenses are tired. But both offenses have played great all day long.

Do you go for the 1st down, or are you forced to punt and play defense?

As always, 10 points goes to the best answer.

Good luck.

  1. I would go for the first down and use a play called "Flat Pressure" (my football teams play HS Varsity) where you have two tight ends and one wide receiver all going for the left corner. But there is also a Running back who at first acts like he is going to block but then suddenly runs a route and the other 3 receivers should draw all the attention away from the RB which allows him to be wide open and pass the first down marker. Also if the RB is covered one of the three receivers should be open and yes you do need a little bit of time in the pocket but not much.

  2. Since it's third down, I wouldn't punt. I would throw a slant or out pass to a tight end or slot receiver.

  3. In this situation I wouldnt want my defense on the field, its the 4th quarter and there tired and havent done much all day since were only leading by 1. Set up a shot gun formation with 3 recievers, 1 tightend and a back. Make it simple for them to pick up small yardage with a quick pass. If they dont get the first, but pick up a few yards. It gives you two options, you can put it deep or go for it.But Id put it deep out of bounds so no returns are possible. Have my defense play in a dime defense in a cover 2 man. All four corners pressed up with both safeties playin over top. Having the linebackers playin stunt blitz to make the qb force the ball.
