I try and fast two days a week, I do it along with a friend to encourage them in not giving up etc. I also do it for the happiness of my family. But at home my mum and dad are always telling me to eat and that im losing weight. If i tell them that I am fasting then they will think that I'm doing it to lose weight. I know i can give them other reasons, but Ive tried telling them all sorts, but they still dont think its necessary. Now i basically keep it a secret, but when i come home from university or work my mum and dad will tell me to eat, I have to lie and say I ate at work, then they ask about what i ate and so on.

Its getting really tough now, I hate lying to my parents, what would you do?

  1. honestly i would tell them, but it would be easy for me to say since im not actually in that situation.

  2. Assalamu Alikum , sister .

Actualy lying is always not good , even when you don't mean anything bad , or you just try to not argue . I know , it's bad to feel that some people insist to get you up wrong .

So here is my advice , if your parents don't argue with you, but you know that they think that _losing weight _ , just tell'em the truth , and don't care , you are fasting for Allah , not for them , but when they see you keeping on fasting , they probably changr their idea , but still you just care for Allah who accepts your work .

If they argue with you ,and you are tired and bored of this , don't lie , but say what we call in  Arabic ( تعريض) , I mean justr say you can't eat , they will think that you are not hungry or you ate at work or collage , but you mean that you can't eat because you are fasting .

Another example of that , if a thief stopped you and wanted to take your money , you tell him that you don't have money , but you do have , So you mean that you don't have money that tou want to give him .

Hope I helped , and may Allah support you at fasting .

    Assalamu Alikum .

  3. Tell them you are fasting and it's not because you want to lose weight but you want to increase in your worship of Allaah.

  4. you can...

not fast as much and slowly introduce it to them.

so from b4 tell them you want to fast the mid 3 days of every month, or you want to fast once a week (which doesnt help in loosing weight at all i think), so that way, you get something your way and also they get somewhat their way?

would that work you think?  or you already tried?

or you can also tell them the truth of what's been happenning, if you find that possible and might lead to a good thing??

And your fasts are voluntery and not obligatory, in that way you lying to them is something you can choose not to.. either by not fasting, or trying something like what i mentioned above.

  5. eat secretly ..& pretend fasting

  6. I did the same as you two years ago when I was a student but Im not doing it now as I couldnt continue lying , i dont teach you to avoid it because I was so happy by doing that ,but try to tell them gradually strategically.

  7. Tell your parents to let you live your life how you want

  8. well to tell you the truth

i would tell them what is really going on...bucuz they are going to find out

and lying to ur parents is not a good thing to do

maybe you can  try your best to explain to them that ur fasting and not trying to lose weight

after all, ur fasting for Allah SWT and not to lose weight
