  1. What year is the vehicle???  If it is over 10 years old and you bought it exempt, there is not much you can do.  However the federal law is CFR49 part 580.  That is title 49 (Transportation) part 580.

If you are basing your opinion on a carfax, you could be very wrong.  There are many error's on carfax.  I deal with about 5 error's a year.  You have emmisions stations, car dealers, mechanic's and many other place that provide mileage info and 1 typo can s***w everything up.  I just cleared a typo error in Michigan that was caused by the motor vehicle department.  To know the facts go get a title search.

  2. Go back to the dealer, tell him that you know that it has been clocked and tell him that you are either want your money back or you are going to Trading Standards and the DVLA, and if he objects, do just that.

  3. I would demand my money back.

If it wasn't forthcoming, I'd tell them I will report them.

  4. You go to the police or phone trading standards

  5. The first thing i would say to you is that you are making an assumption when you say it has been 'clocked'. Speedometers, like any other part of the car, can pack up and need replacing.

The second thing i would say - no, ask - were you satisfied with the vehicle until you found the mileage was incorrect? If the answer is yes, then what is the big problem?  Mileage is not necessarily an indication of either wear or lifespan remaining!  I will give you 3 examples to illustrate what i mean

    (a) I live in Suffolk and all my mileage is on very flat Norfolk/Suffolk  A roads in light traffic and i am a sedate driver.

    (b) My younger son lives in London and virtually all his mileage is in stop start heavy traffic [and he just loves being first away from the traffic lights].

    (c) My oldest daughter lives in Cumbria and nearly all her mileage is up and down steep hilly roads.

If my car had 80k on the clock, my Daughters had 60k on the clock, and my Sons had 40k on the clock - my car would be the better buy!

  6. and what you mean clocked...  i guessing you mean  the miles set back  which is unlikey most are eletronic  and cant be set back but it could have had to be replace if they when bad... place that sold it to you would have to have it on tittle.. and miles dont mean but its the shape its in a well care for car will run into the 400,000 range if you got it from a local person your out of luck cause you brought it as is

  7. Report it to DVLA in the first place, then trading standards, then go back to where you bought it, it was sold under a false description and you're entitled to a complete refund.

  8. A call to trading standards is what I did when it happened to me. The seller suddenly became very polite & started offering cash back!
