Would it be a drive in movie, the malt shack, the burger hut? Sorry that's what I think of when I think of the 50s-70s. What would you do on a date when you were younger?

  1. I was tremendously shy and giggled a lot. I guess preparing for the loud open mouth laugh I do now. ha ha. Mainly go to the nearest burger place. I would eat chili dogs with cole slaw on them and listen to the radio. I also went to drive-in movies and wish they were around now. Also, pizza huts. Pizza  was great when you were young. Gosh, this takes me back. Now, I want a chili dog with cole slaw on it. Yummo..!

    love ya

  2. Beautiful answers . . . about the only thing different I can add is hayrides . We would hold our own hootenanny's on those rides !  In winter, off came the wheels and on went the runners (?), skies (?) you know what I mean . . .good innocent fun . . .we had time to really get to know a person before deciding if we wanted to take a relationship to a deeper level. . .and by this, I mean marriage !  Not so today . . .they are missing so much fun and they don't even know it ! !

  3. remember back than we did not have tv -- but i did have a part time jobs since i was 11 so i always had spending money -- we have of course one movie in town and the one cafe/truck stop where every one hung out -- you can walk form one side of my town to the other in 15 minutes so cars were not necessary!!! nearest drive in was over 50 miles away and in 1954 that was like 209 today!!!  after every home game there would be a dance at the school for an hour of so called a sock hop since you could not wear shoes on the floor -- you had to remember to insure you did not have holes in your socks!!!

  4. Movie, ballgame, go to a dance, or eat out and of course go parking.

  5. We would go for a pizza, or go to the drive in as you said,  a lot of hanging out at a drive in restaurant, everybody would pull their cars in and order something like a small coke (LOL) and stay there for hours, going from car to car meeting with friends, circling around, the boys showing off their cars, one time my dad remarked that it reminded him of a bunch of monkeys!!!. We used to also go on picnics a lot, we loved the park, and we walked, walked, walked to nowhere. Thanks for  letting me bring back old memories. Oh yeah we used to go to our high school football games.

  6. I only had a few  dates before I married.   But one I had was with a guy from school.   We went ice skating in Richmond, Surrey.  Another time we went to Brans Hatch (?  spelling) to see the car races.   And then on the 3rd date we went to dinner and when he asked me out again I had to be honest and tell him that I had met someone else. (This was not the guy I met at Waterloo station)!     I DID try to let him down gently!   GOSH that was an awful experience.

  7. Usually a movie, then we'd go for a pizza or a banana split.

  8. We would go to movie, ballgame and sock hop afterwards, or to a family owned restaurant in our little town for a coke and fries and to play the jukebox. It was all good clean fun!  They were days of such "sweet innocence".

  9. We did all kinds of things.  My boyfriend loved to go places, so we went to movies, concerts, plays, ball games, museums, fairs, etc.   We also would go down to the river to fish or to just wade and sit out on the rocks.  Occasionally we'd go out for a nice dinner, but that was for very special occasions.

  10. Ok, my dating years were pretty much 1961 - 1965 (joined the Navy).  On dates I went to a movie, to a drive-in theater, roller skating, hung out at the Chatterbox drinking sodas & talking,  school sports, walking, riding bikes, the beach, the lake, a few ponds, a party at friends' houses, school dances, the town Teen Club, the Kiwanis Club dances on Friday nights,  'helped baby-sit' (wink wink), went for drives along back roads, went parking, went 'cruising the Freeze' (Tastee Freeze), to the State Fair, the Hospital Fair, played tourist around Kent and Sussex counties.  And we didn't have to spend a lot of money doing things like now.

  11. We did a lot of the same things that young people do today. We did have opportunities to do some things that aren't readily available today like the drive in theaters and roller rinks. We would go to the drive in restaurants and hang out. We would go to church activities geared for young people and of course, school activities and sports events. Sometimes it was Lover's Lane or other places where we could park our cars and enjoy some time together.

We had a barn on a piece of our property that we used for a place to store hay; it was a good place to go if we wanted some privacy.

I lived on a ranch and often would take my girl friend out there where we would do all kinds of things like riding horses or fishing or swimming in the creek or ponds on our property. We would play with the livestock which we showed at the fairs, getting them ready to show.

There was always many things to do as me and my sister had the basement of a nice home all to ourselves and we liked to take our friends out there.

Mom was a super cook and she liked young people so she would often do things to entertain us.

Life on the ranch was good even if we did work hard and had very little time to play.

  12. Roller slaking  on a  old  wooden  rink, or sitting outside in  car  and  listening  to the  music,  sit  at  Dairy Queen. , I remember  getting in with  others at  drive in to see  Rosemary's  Baby and  having  to fib  what  we  saw!  68-72

  13. Yep, that describes a lot of my dates. We also went roller skating or go-cart riding and occasionally went to the zoo or museums, a few trips to Six Flags. We spent a lot of time just hanging out with friends and driving around town.
