What would you do: pay rent or use money to run from twin hurricanes?

My state faces the possibility of being clobbered by two MAJOR (i.e., Cat 3+) hurricanes near the same time next week! Rent is due on Monday and, normally, I would pay on time; but, I'm SERIOUSLY considering using the money to evacuate no later than Monday. Honestly, I am not financially prepared to pay rent and evacuate now because I used my emergency stash to evacuate a few weeks ago! Rent will be paid later in the week, but probably not before I get a notice of eviction or something. That's a small price to pay to get my family to safety! I know what I'm going to do, but what would you do in this situation?

This is by far the craziest hurricane season in my state's history! I was born here and have lived here most of my life, but I am seriously considering moving.

  1. You really don't want to stay there so you probably are going to have to hope you have an understanding landlord (assuming the building survives of course).

  2. i would run! why would you pay rent to a house that might just get destroyed? RUN WHILE YOU CAN!

  3. I would get my family to safety and worry about the rent later.

    Hey, good luck.

  4. you are in a very tough position.  call your landlord,  I am sure he will be evacuating to and will understand if you are late on rent this once.  just don't bail without letting him know something.

God bless you and your family.
